November 24, 2013: “Big Jesus, Big Thanks”

Posted on : Nov 21st, 2013 | By | Category: This Sunday's Service

This Sunday, our own George Lynch will be our worship leader and preacher.  George is always bright and funny.  George not only earned a Master of Divinity, but a Doctor of Ministry as well.  A few weeks before he was to be ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, he was “outed.”  Thus endeth any chance of ordination for him.  The Presbyterian Church was the total loser in that game, and we have been the winner.

George has been a member and leader at our church since 1983.  He has the honor of being the first Moderator of the Congregation and Church Council since we became UCC; ironically, roles that only ordained Pastors can hold in the Presbyterian Church.  Like I said, “Our gain!”

This Sunday, George’s sermon is “Big Jesus, Big Thanks.”  We welcome George and look forward to his wit and wisdom.  Happy Thanksgiving to each of you!

Blessings,

~ This Sunday’s Scripture ~

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

(NRSV – inclusive language)

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the words of prophets, but test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil.

May the God of peace sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and will do this.
