February 8, 2015: Understanding Islam

Posted on : Feb 5th, 2015 | By | Category: This Sunday's Service

This Sunday we have the blessing of having Narma Ahmady Ali, the Muslim Chaplain at UCLA Medical Center, coming to speak to us about the religion of Islam. She will share with us an overview of the beliefs of the religion of Islam, help us understand some of the difference between the sects (practices) of Islam, the difference between those who follow the teachings of Islam vs. political terrorists who use Islamic ideology to support their cause, and some of the differences in the beliefs among those who follow the teaching of Islam in different countries and places throughout the world.

Narma is a wonderful teacher and because this is such a unique opportunity, most of our worship service (approximately 45 minutes) will be devoted to her teaching. Narma will begin speaking at 11:10 am – so if you wish to hear her, please be on time.

This is truly a very unique opportunity for us. Very few Christian churches will ever have this opportunity. Given the global attention to issues of conflict and war and their association with Islam and terrorists, this is probably one of the most important religious learning experiences we can have at this time in the history of our world.

~ This Sunday’s Scriptures ~

A Reading from the Christian & Hebrew Scriptures:

Psalm 133

How very good and pleasant it is

when sisters and brothers live together in unity!

It is like the precious oil on the head,

   running down upon the beard,

on the beard of Aaron,

running down over the collar of his robes.

It is like the dew of Hermon,

which falls on the mountains of Zion.

For there God ordained God’s blessing,

   life for evermore.
