Greetings,

West Hollywood [Wehoucc] United Church of Christ continues to evolve as we explore ways to meet the needs of our local community. The purpose of a survey is to check the pulse of the congregation which is a vital part of successful planning. In 2015 the Wehoucc Congregational Survey revealed areas of support, as well as growing edges. Clearly it is time for another Congregational survey as we discern the Mission of Wehoucc.

Consider the following information from the 2015 Congregational survey: Here are the top three responses.

How important do you feel each of the following is in our church?

  • Inclusive Congregation 80.39%
  • Love of God 78.43%

What are you looking for in church? Rate the following in terms of importance to you.

  • Inspiring Worship [very important] 72.55%

  • God [very important] 66.67%

Which of the following parts of worship are most important to you?

Likewise, the church Profile completed in 2019, highlights the very essence and DNA of Wehoucc.

“This small and vibrant church stands firm on inclusion, love, acceptance, and justice. These are the core values that have guided us through many rough seas.”

WHO IS GOD CALLING US TO BECOME?

“God is calling WeHo UCC to be God’s earthly ambassadors, forming a community that is passionate about promoting peace and social justice, ministering to those in need and loving everyone. Our mission is to develop a reputation as Totally welcoming” and being a “beacon of hope” to those people who are marginalized. Striving to obey God’s commandments and attempting to grow closer to God must be our priority. Furthermore, we believe that God wants us to be a praying community and to strengthen our trust in God as we journey forward.”

As I reflect on these documents I am encouraged and inspired by your commitment to inclusivity, extravagant welcome, prayer and trust in God as we journey forward together. Journey is the Theme for July! I invite you to prayerfully consider what it means to Journey Together. Yes, surveys are one way of taking the pulse of the congregation, but they also shed light on how different we are, and those differences are expressed in what’s important to each of us. The blessing is the common denominators that we share and the desire to be a “beacon of hope to those who are marginalized.” Are we willing to be interdependent and independent?

See you Sunday, July 4th, Independence Day!

Pastor Janice
