1/5/20 – Our Hopes & Dreams from Jan 1, 2000

Posted on : Jan 2nd, 2020 | By | Category: This Sunday's Service

On January 2, 2000 – the celebration of the new Millennial, I asked the congregation to respond to three questions:

  • What are your hopes and dreams for yourself?
  • What are your hopes and dreams for our community?
  • What are your hopes and dreams for our world?

This Sunday I will share with you what those hopes and dreams were from two decades ago!

To me, 20 years doesn’t seem that long ago.  But last Sunday after church, Lisa Bove reframed it for me.  She reminded me that their oldest daughter, Caitlyn, was 1 year and 1 month old on Jan 1, 2000, and Michaela, her youngest daughter was not yet born!  (Michaela began her first year of college last fall!)

Time does fly and as we draw closer to my retirement, I think it will be great fun to hear what our hopes and dreams were as we began the “new millennium, two decades ago!”

See you Sunday – and a Blessed and Happy New Year to each of you!

Hebrews 11: 1-3, 8-13

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it those of old received divine approval. By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was to go. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one couple, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

These all died in faith, not having received what was promised, but having seen it and greeted it from afar.
