Those who begin by burning books will end by burning people.
– Heinrich Heine

All the media attention, blogs, and Twitter chatter about the obscure pastor in Florida who wanted to burn a copy of the Koran this week confirm without doubt that people are slowly but surely awakening to the reality that we now live in the 21st century. Long gone are the days of people of different religious beliefs and traditions living in far away countries. Long gone are homogeneous neighborhoods where everyone looked and believed the same. In 21st century America the rule rather than the exception is that my neighbors, my colleges at work, and my friends will be from a different faith tradition than my own. How should we as the church, as Christians, respond to this reality? Clearly NOT by burning another faith tradition’s sacred Scriptures! Affirming our faith in Jesus Christ does not require the rejection of other faiths. Rather, the question should be, “How can we live in respect and appreciation of this diversity and at the same time follow Jesus.?” invoice template free homely.
