“We created humankind from a single pair of male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you might get to know one another….” (Qur’an chapter 49, verse 13)

As salamu alaikum, (God’s) Peace be with you! My name is Tahara Akmal. I am a recent graduate from the Claremont School of Theology with a MA in Pastoral Care and Islamic Studies. Currently I am completing a chaplain residency program as an interfaith hospital chaplain. What I love about my ministry work is that I have the opportunity to offer spiritual care and support to people from religious traditions other than my own. However, I am often asked how do I do this? Am I conflicted when visiting with people from another faith group, and am I compromising my own faith? These questions are not new to me. They are issues I had to confront when I first decided that hospital chaplaincy was what I desired as my life’s work. how to invest homely.
