October 16, 2016: Keeping Heart in the Midst of Everything

Posted on : Oct 13th, 2016 | By | Category: This Sunday's Service

This Sunday we welcome the Rev. Lorraine Ceniceros as our guest minister. Lorraine is one of the fabulous ministers in our UCC Central Association and she is one of our very gifted Latina clergywomen.

Rev. Ceniceros was born and raised in Southern California and spent some time in Arizona where she came through the Southwest Conference for ordination.

Lorraine has served as pastor of a local church and is currently serving as Manager of Spiritual Care with Providence Health Center in Santa Monica. Lorraine is active in the Central Association where she chairs the Church & Ministry Committee as well as Section B of the committee.

Just recently, Lorraine has begun serving on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Lorraine has a really wonderful message prepared entitled “The Heart of it All.” The theme will center around prayer, faith and keeping heart (faith) in the midst of everything we encounter in our lives.

I will be on our Fall Retreat with 18 other members of our Church at our UCC Camp & Conference Center, Pilgrim Pines, in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Both those of us on Retreat and those of you in West Hollywood will be worshipping at the same time, but in different settings. Let us hold each other in prayer.

Blessings,

Dan & Lorraine

~ This Sunday’s Scripture ~

Luke 18: 1-8

The Parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge

Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to the judge and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’ For a while the judge refused; but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.’”

And Jesus said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to God’s chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will God delay long in helping them? I tell you, God will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Child of God comes, will he find faith on earth?”
