February 13, 2011: Everyone has a Story

How do you get someone’s attention when you have something important, or even something not so important (lol) to say? Two of the most famous “attention getters” are now obsolete: “You’ve got mail!” and “Attention K-mart shoppers…”

My all-time favorite attention-grabber was the one they used at Disney Hall the first year it was open. The lights were dimmed and in surround-sound throughout the auditorium, cell phones began to ring. Everyone immediately grabbed their phone in an auto-reflex response. An announcer then said something like, “So that all may enjoy this performance, please silence all cell phones.” And of course immediately everyone broke into laughter. purchase order template homely.
